FAQs

  • This is a 'varies-by-individual' type of question. Most people feel very mild to no discomfort, and to help with comfort I numb the area I am working on throughout the procedure. Every individual client is different, but most express that the procedure was far more tolerable than they expected it to be. I have even had clients fall asleep! Following all pre care instructions helps ensure your comfort as well.

  • Indeed, it is 100% a tattoo. Anytime pigment is implanted into the skin it is considered a tattoo. However, the pigment used for permanent cosmetics is different from a standard body art tattoo. Permanent cosmetics pigment is designed to look "soft" & fade naturally over time.

  • Touch-ups allow an artist to address areas that may have faded or require additional pigment to achieve a harmonious and balanced appearance. I refine and perfect the initial work, ensuring that your permanent makeup remains fresh and vibrant for an extended period.

The healing process, individual skin characteristics, and external factors can affect how the pigment settles. Some areas may experience slight fading or unevenness as the skin heals and regenerates. This is entirely normal and common.

It’s important to keep realistic expectations about the longevity of permanent makeup. Over time, factors such as sun exposure, individual skin characteristics, and lifestyle habits can contribute to gradual fading. However, touch-ups and good aftercare practices will keep your permanent makeup looking beautiful for years to come.

  • Microblading is inherently traumatic to the skin. The technique involves a hand tool. This hand tool is dragged along the skin repeatedly, creating small cuts to implant pigment. Scar tissue is inevitable. The healed results are inconsistent, and every touch up involves creating more scar tissue and trauma. Individuals with previous microblading have laid on my table and are unaware they even have scarring until I show them where and have them feel the scarred ridges along their brow.

At Permanent Makeup by Summer, I perform all procedures with a rotary tattoo machine ONLY. I have never touched a microblade. Using a permanent makeup tattoo machine is a safe, reliable technique that required extensive training and provides beautifully healed results for every skin type.

  • Yes. I recommend a minimum of 6 weeks between filler and lip blush appointments. Any sooner and lip blush may cause filler migration.

  • If you have had cold sores in the past or believe you could be susceptible to them, it is recommended you see your doctor (2 weeks before your appointment). Applying an anti-viral medication prescribed by your doctor before your lip blush service will help to prevent any outbreaks. If an outbreak does occur during healing, it may result in loss of pigment in the affected area.
